On July 8th 2008, Jonathan Toews was named captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, they went on to win 3 stanley cups in 6 years, in 2010, 2013 & 2015.
Here we are in 2022 though and the Chicago Blackhawks are no longer one of the dynamic dominant teams in the NHL and are sitting near the bottom of the standings, despite long time leaders Jonathan Toews and
Patrick Kane still being on the roster.
At the trade deadline last season, newly appointed General Manager Kyle Davidson announced that the team would be heading in a new direction and entering a rebuild. The goal is to start from the bottom that when the team is ready to compete, they are a team that will contend for years to come.
While that is great for the Blackhawks organization, it is not great for Toews & Kane who are still capable of playing at a top level and want to win another cup before they retire.
Both Toews & Kane have full no move clauses in their contract, but them being in the final year of their deal, it is believed both will be moved by the deadline.
According to TSN Insider Mike Johnson, Toews might be interested in a certain Canadian team.
So far this season the Winnipeg Jets have rebounded from missing the playoffs last year and under their new coach, they are second in their division.
It is believed that Toews would be willing to take a ''hometown discount'' to go to Winnipeg and re-sign a deal. Whether that means he will be traded there this season or sign in the off-season, Toews is apparently interested in being a Winnipeg Jet.
Toews has rebounded very well this season after a disappointing offensive season last year and currently has 10 goals and 17 points in 28 games.
