Ever since the coach's challenge option was put in place though, it seems there has been a lack of consistency in the calls and now no one actually knows what these calls actually are. When it comes to a goalie interference play or ''distinct kicking motion'' no one knows whether a play is going to be called back or not because a call that is called back one game, will not be called back the next.
Last night when the New York Rangers and Calgary Flames were playing, we had a play happen just like that. Andrew Mangiapane got behind the defender and looks to have ''kicked' the puck into the net.
The Rangers were upset and called for a review of the goal:
The Flames tie it up against #NYR for the 3rd time on this "deflection". Thoughts? pic.twitter.com/S6lqRRc2fN Rangers on MSG (@RangersMSGN) February 7, 2023
After the referee's and league reviewed the play, it was determined the goal was ''deflected'' not kicked. Once this goal was allowed to count, Rangers fans were pissed and immediately starting accusing the NHL of rigging the game.
What do you think, was this a good goal?
