Long gone are the days of PK Subban scoring 60+ points and winning the Norris trophy as the leagues best defenceman. He is definitely not the defenceman he once was, but he still believes he has a lot to give a National Hockey League team. He has a big short and can make some great passes, but the foot speed is not what it once was.
This past March, the New Jersey Devils let Subban know that he was not going to be getting an extension from the team and that they would be parting ways. They tried to trade Subban at the trade deadline but no team was willing to take on his salary cap of $9,000,000, especially for what little value he was bringing to the table.
We are now over a month into free agency and if this was 2015, Subban's would have been signed to a team within seconds of free agency opening, but it's unfortunately 2022 and his agent reported a few weeks ago that he is having a hard time finding a place to play.
There were rumours making their rounds that the Edmonton Oilers were possibly interested in Subban, but the Oilers already have Bouchard, Barrie and Ceci on the right side, so there isn't room for Subban.
But we are now seeing that Subban is getting some interest from another team in the Pacific division. The San Jose Sharks made a big splash this offseason by trading away former Norris winning defenceman
Brent Burns, in hopes that they will speed up the rebuild process, and now with an opening on the right side, Subban could slide into this spot and get some significant minutes to help rejuvenate his career.
According to Sheng Peng, there is definitely mutual interest between Subban and the Sharks.
