The Maple Leafs lost quite a few depth players this offseason like Jason Spezza, Ilya Mikheyev and fan favourite Jack Campbell. They traded for goaltender Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators and signed castaway goaltender Ilya Samsonov from the Washington Capitals in free agency.
We might be seeing Dubas make a big splash though as he is desperate to get that first round victory. The Chicago Blackhawks are fully in a rebuild mode now, trying to dump all players that could win any games for them, and a few of the core pieces in Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane could be on the move. These two future hall of fame players have been with the organization their entire careers and it will be difficult to see them in another teams colours, but we will just have to wait and see if it happens.
Both players are on the wrong side of 30 and can still produce at a high level, so neither want to be part of this 5 year rebuild that Hawks General Manager Kyle Davidson is projecting.
So now the latest rumour going around is that Kyle Dubas and Kyle Davidson have been discussing a trade that involves Patrick Kane.

The Maple Leafs are currently up against the cap, so taking on Kane's $10.5 million cap hit would not be possible, but if they could work out a deal where the Hawks retain 50% and agree to take back Alex Kerfoot and Pierre Engvall, they could absolutely make a deal work, well, atleast salary wise. In terms of what the Blackhawks would want in return, the Maple Leafs definitely have some desirable prospects in Matthew Knies and Rodion Amirov, along with all their first round picks.
While Patrick Kane would be a valuable asset to any franchise, the Maple Leafs have never had a problem scoring in their top 6, it's been everywhere else thats been a problem.
Would this be a smart move for the Maple Leafs to make?
