Rick Westhead a writer for TSN has been the go-to lately for breaking news and this is no different. According to Westhead:
Russian players, their representatives and National Hockey League teams have contacted immigration lawyers in recent days to discuss the process of applying for asylum or permanent residency in North America
With the current war going on between Russia and Ukraine, teams and players are worried that Russian NHL players may be required to leave or not be able to get their work visas renewed to continue playing.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Canada has apparently already asked the government to stop issuing new travel visa's for Russian players.
While this may not be an issue for current players already playing in North America, it could end up being a huge issue for future players/athletes who want to come to North America to play.
