Well it seems the former NHL'er Sean Avery`s antics on the ice continued off the ice. More specifically in the court room.
Sean Avery was charged with smashing his E-Bike into someones SUV in New York city where Avery called home.

Avery has been dealing with his charge of criminal mischief from the incident that took place back in 2019 and was threatened with jail time if convicted. Avery was forced by the judges court order to appear in person while past appearances were all done virtually.

Avery fired his lawyer Dmitriy Shakhnevich and told the court and Judge John Zhuo Wong that he would now be representing himself.

Judge John Zhuo Wang informed Avery that he was not entitled to a trial by jury and instead offered him a bench trial, which Avery promptly refused and insisted on a jury trial. Eventually, with resistance Avery came to terms and accepted the bench trial.

Sean Avery plead to the judge to move this case to a much later date, claiming he lives across the country now. Although Avery is believed to still be living in New York where the incident took place, Avery says different.

"I have a job sir. I live in California," said Avery to the judge as per the New York Times. "I don't just get on the subway to come here."

Seemingly not amused by the antics of the former NHL pest, Judge Wang set a trial for May 23rd of this year. Avery tried everything to get his way including talking when told not to by the judge. Avery was acting out like in his NHL days but Judge Whang was not partaking in it.

Before ending the court session the Judge gave Avery a stern warning, if Avery were to miss his court date a warrant would be issued for his arrest.
