The IIHF has always been more strict when it comes to big hits and perceived head shots. Over the years this has led to some awful ejections. Tonight the IIHF added another awful ejection to their list.
Referees ejected Zach Dean for one of the cleanest hits you'll see. As Dean followed a defender behind the Czechia goal, he waited for him to turn and then delivered a clean hit. The hit by all accounts looked clean. To everyone except the IIHF.
Dean was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct on the play. The Canadians lost the game to Czechia 5-2.
