Trade Between the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators Officially Completed
At the last trade deadline, the Edmonton Oilers made a big trade to improve their blue line.
They traded Tyson Barrie, Reid Schaefer, a 2023 1st round draft pick, and a 2024 4th round draft pick for Mattias Ekholm and a 2024 6th round draft pick.
Now that the Oilers' playoff run has ended, the trade is finally complete.
Edmonton's Draft Position Revealed
It has been announced that the Oilers will pick at the next draft is locked in the 24th position. Unfortunately for them, it's going to Nashville.
"Nashville #Smashville currently owns Edmonton #LetsGoOilers 2023 1st round pick acquired from the Mattias Ekholm trade. This pick is now locked in at #24 overall."
With three remaining seasons on Ekholm's contract (at only $6,250,000 AAV), the Oilers struck quite the bargain with this trade. Especially considering that he's essentially been Edmonton's number one defenseman during the playoffs.
Now that the trade is complete, the Oilers find themselves with only four picks in the next draft (2nd, 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds). However, Ken Holland might decide to make a few trades in order to acquire more picks in this historic draft.
As seen on Oilers Daily - Oilers and Predators finalized their trade.
