Vancouver Canucks top free agent signing injured in 1st game after HUGE hit

The Vancouver Canucks were not too busy in free agency this year, but after a late season push for the playoffs last season, they knew they needed to add some scoring depth to their lineup.

They brought in one of the best bottom 6 scoring players that was available in former Toronto Maple Leafs Ilya Mikheyev. Just seconds after the free agency opened on July 13th it was announced that the Canucks were signing Mikheyev to a 4 year deal with an AAV of $4,750,000.

The 27 year old Russian was coming off career highs in both goals (21) and points (32).

Last night he played his first game in a Canucks uniform and it didn't go very well. He was on the top line with Elias Pettersson and newly acquired Russian star Andrey Kuzmenko and during the second period he took a hit into the boards from Nic Meloche and immediately left the game in pain.

Mikheyev did not return to the game after this, and no update on his health has been provided:
