Börje Salming is a legend in the National Hockey League. He paved the way for future European players to come to the NHL and was one of the first Swedish hockey players in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
This summer, he was diagnosed with ALS which is:
a rare neurological disease that primarily affects the nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement
A former teammate of his, Mark Kirton is also suffering from the same disease, and was diagnosed four years ago.
When Salming was in Toronto being honoured by the Maple Leafs, he got to spend some time with Kirton, which turned into such a magical moment:
2 ALS warriors meet there's a bond that is difficult to describe. Add former teammate to mix & its over the top. Last Sat/leaf game love could be seen in everyone's eyes. A memory never to be forgotten!
