Penguins forward Michael Bunting will not play tonight after he was involved in a car accident.

The Penguins are set to face off against the Tampa Bay Lightning at home tonight starting at 5PM EST.

Unfortunately, they will be without one of their key forwards as Michael Bunting got into a car wreck on his way to the arena.

Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed this news after Bunting was not seen at morning skate ahead of the game.

Luckily, it sounds like he is okay and he is sitting out tonight primarily as a precaution more than anything else.

Similarly, Sullivan also confirmed that no one in the other vehicle involved was seriously injured as well.

Bunting has been a solid addition for the Penguins, having scored 13 goals and 25 points through 43 games this season.

He is third on the team in goals only behind Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust, and sixth in scoring overall.

The team will certainly miss him tonight as they take on the Lightning, but hopefully, they can get back in the win column after a 5-0 shutout loss to the Ottawa Senators.

We will have to keep an eye on Bunting going forward though.

Sullivan did say that he is okay, but does that mean tonight will be the only game he misses, or is he actually out day-to-day?

Furthermore, he could potentially be suffering from a minor, nagging injury that will follow him after this incident.

Hopefully that is not the case, but we will just have to wait and see if his performance on the ice is affected by this or not.

The Penguins' next game is on Tuesday when they host the Seattle Kraken, so look for Bunting to return to the lineup for that one.
