The Los Angeles Kings have been off to a great start in 2024/25, but now they've made a surprise move, waiving former second-round pick Arthur Kaliyev.

This season has been a fantastic one thus far for the Los Angeles Kings, and with all four of their lines absolutely rolling, this is a team that once again looks like a genuine Stanley Cup threat in the Western Conference.

As a result of those lines being on fire, there's no room for any young wingers to crack the roster once again, and now that's caused the Kings to make a surprise move, as they have officially placed 23-year-old Arthur Kaliyev on waivers.

The former second-round pick has been a solid player in three full seasons with the Kings, posting 35 goals and 71 points in 188 games played since debuting back in 2020/21 following his second-round selection in the 2019 NHL Draft.

Unfortunately, Kaliyev suffered a fractured clavicle back in training camp, and now the team has taken the risk of placing him on waivers as they would love him to report to the AHL with the Ontario Reign.

In other waivers new, Nick DeSimone, a 30-year-old blue liner who was waived by the New Jersey Devils now has a brand new home after being claimed by the Utah Hockey Club, who lost Dakota Mermis on waivers earlier in the week.

DeSimone has played most of his career either in the AHL or as a 7th defenseman at the NHL level but has shown flashes of being a solid stay-at-homely liner in the league.

The move is a very solid one for the Utah Hockey Club, as they get added depth on their blue line without having to pay much for it, and immediately find a replacement for Mermis who was claimed by Toronto only days prior.
