Over the weekend, Washington Capitals prospect Cam Allen was involved in a drunken car accident which saw him arrested on several counts, bringing major backlash from the hockey community, especially given the tragedy we saw this past summer.
At 20 years of age, Allen should already know better, with this incident putting his entire future at risk, as many believe the Washington Capitals could potentially move to terminate his deal in the near future.
Whether or not that happens, only time will tell, but for now, Allen has faced his first punishment at the hockey level for his involvement in the accident, as the Ontario Hockey League has officially suspended him pending a review of the situation.
Unsurprisingly, the tragedy that swept the NHL this off-season has fans furious with the situation, with some calling for him to never play in the OHL again after his reckless and downright pathetic behaviour.
There's still much more that we potentially do not know about this entire situation, but for now, the OHL is taking the safe route and not allowing Allen back on the ice, and if it's as bad as it appears to be, this is definitely the right move.
At this point in time, the former fifth-round draft pick will be lucky to play at the professional level again, with his production certainly not going to allow him to overcome these off the ice issues, so for now all the OHL and the Capitals can do is await the result of his trial in London, Ontario.
