Don Cherry snubs Connor McDavid and Edmonton Oilers with Stanley Cup pick
Former Hockey Night in Canada host Don Cherry recently said which Canadian team he thinks has the best chance to win a Stanley Cup, throwing shade at the Oilers in the process.
The Edmonton Oilers look like the team to beat this season, at least in the Western Conference.
The team currently leads the Pacific Division with 72 points through 55 games, good for a .655 points percentage.
As a result, the team is currently tied with the Carolina Hurricanes for the best betting odds to win the Stanley Cup at +650.
The Panthers and Stars round out the top four while the Leafs and Devils are tied for the 5th best odds at +1300
When former Hockey Night in Canada host Don Cherry saw this, he was adamant that the Leafs were the better pick, and have the better chance to win the Stanley Cup this year.
"The Oilers are plus 65 (+650), yeah. And the Leafs are plus 13 (+1300). I would take the Leafs, yep."
The Leafs currently are 2nd place in the Atlantic Division with 68 points in 55 games, three points behind the Florida Panthers, but they do have two games in hand.
If the current standings hold, Toronto would be up against a familiar opponent in the first round in the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This is good news for the team as Tampa Bay is the only team Toronto has been able to get past in the first round since 2004.
The Oilers certainly have a better track record in the playoffs recently, with a trip to the Stanley Cup finals last year and seven series victories in the McDavid-Draisaitl era.
That is probably a big part of the reason why the team has better betting odds today.
Which team would you take to win it all this year?
