Ducks goaltender John Gibson reveals what condition would make him accept a trade to two specific teams
Ducks goaltender John Gibson would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Oilers and Hurricanes, but he would have to be the team's number one.
The John Gibson trade rumors are running hot once again; the Anaheim Ducks' goaltender finds himself at the center of speculation once more.
His name has circulated in the trade talk for close to three seasons, but could this be the year he finally moves?
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Gibson is generating interest, and he reportedly prefers a trade to either the Carolina Hurricanes or Edmonton Oilers.
Gibson would likely prefer Skinner traded if he went to the Oilers
He wants a clear No. 1 role and doesn't see a tandem with Stuart Skinner in Edmonton as the right fit.
At 31 years old, Gibson has a 9-9-2 mark with a .915 save percentage this season. With two seasons left on his contract that runs him $6.4 million AAV, he also has a 10-team no-trade clause.
With Anaheim probably a surefire participant in another NHL Draft Lottery, GM Pat Verbeek finally may be ready to make a trade.
"I think Gibson wants to go on a run, and prove that he can be 'the guy' on a top team," stated Friedman on the latest episode of 32 Thoughts. So, if it's the Gibson/Skinner combo approach, I don't feel that's going to appeal to him."
The Carolina Hurricanes currently have Frederik Andersen and Pyotr Kochetkov in net and don't seem to be indicating a desire to move either.
Andersen will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, while Kochetkov has two seasons remaining at $2 million annually.
With the NHL taking a two-week break, Gibson is one to keep an eye on. A trade could very well be coming sooner rather than later.
