Canadian franchise leading the charge to trade for Martin Necas
A Canadian franchise is reportedly among the top teams to land Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes per insider Darren Dreger.
One of the most intriguing names this offseason is Carolina Hurricanes winger Martin Necas. After leading the Hurricanes in scoring in 2022-23, he took a step back in 2023-24 but still played well.
As a pending restricted free agent, many think that Necas and the Hurricanes will not reach a contract agreement putting him at the top of the rumor mill with teams calling to see if he is available.
Recently insider Darren Deger shared that the Montreal Canadiens are among the top teams to land Necas this offseason.
Dreger saying the Habs are right up there with their interest in Necas.

Canadiens GM Kent Hughes has made it a habit to pick up underutilized talent having traded for Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook within the past few years. While neither has emerged as the piece that puts the Canadiens over the top, Necas may wind up being that piece.
We will now wait and see if the Canadiens make a move for Necas or if he will go elsewhere or even stay in Carolina despite the rumors.
