This afternoon a report from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman is confirming that the Montreal Canadiens are on the verge of acquiring Patrik Laine from the Blue Jackets.

A new post on X just moments ago from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that there is major traction between the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets regarding a Patrik Laine trade.

At the moment the details of the trade have not been released to the public. It seems as though the two teams are far down the path to making Patrik Laine a Montreal Canadien.

A Patrik Laine trade has been in the works for most of the NHL offseason. He reportedly requested the move after going through the NHL, NHLPA's players assistance program.

With new GM Don Waddell in charge it seems the Columbus Blue Jackets are putting the final touches on making that happen. For the Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is still looking to surround his young core with plenty of talent. Patrik Laine who was drafted 2nd overall in 2019 brings that talent to the table.

At his best Patrik Laine is a 40-goal scorer with near point per-game upside. If the Canadiens believe they can get that type of success this should be a promising move almost regardless of the price.

As the final trade details are released we will continue to keep you updated.
