Many fans of the Montreal Canadiens have been debating each other as to whether former star goalie Carey Price should have his name and jersey hung up in the rafters of the Bell Centre alongside other franchise legends such as Jacques Plante, Patrick Roy and Ken Dryden.
Ken Dryden has publicly stated he supports the move to have Carey Price's jersey hung up alongside his one day, however there is one NHL writer who feels the complete opposite way. NHL analyst Brian Wilde does not believe Price is worthy enough of this retirement honor. He believes that Price lacks the qualities that other legends have had in the past, such as the fact that he has not been able to win a Stanley Cup with the team.
The interesting fact in all of this is that despite Carey Price not having won a single Stanley Cup with the Canadiens, he does have the most goalie wins in franchise history with 361. Price has played in 712 games with the Habs and posted a career 2.51 GAA and .917 save %. He has sadly been unable to play since 2022 when he suffered a major knee injury that never healed quite in the way he had hoped.
Following Montreal's surprising run to the Stanley Cup finals in 2021, Carey Price only played in five games the following season before the team placed him on LTIR due to his knee issues. Price followed that up by entering the NHL's Player Assistance Program. There was some good news in all this, as the league awarded him with the 2022 Bill Masterton Trophy for his dedication to hockey and great perseverance.
