New Jersey Devils trade away goaltender and former 7th overall pick
The Vegas Golden Knights are taking a big swing in acquiring goaltender Akira Schmid and former top-10 pick Alexander Holtz in a trade with the New Jersey Devils.
After trading goaltender Logan Thompson earlier today the Vegas Golden Knights have made another trade this time acquiring a goalie. In the trade, the Golden Knights scoop up Akira Schmid and Alexander Holtz with Paul Cotter and a draft pick going to the New Jersey Devils.
Sounds like Schmid and Holtz for Paul Cotter and a pick
Vegas is acquiring goalie Akira Schmid from New Jersey
The Vegas Golden Knights needed a goaltender to bring into the NHL after giving away Logan Thompson and do so with Akira Schmid who is still a young goaltender. They also get sniper and former top prospect in New Jersey Alexander Holtz who still has plenty of upside.
The New Jersey Devils now get a center in Paul Cotter who can be used on the third or 4th line on a team trying to make the playoffs. This is something the Devils were searching for to compliment Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier.
The trade will be one that plays out over multiple seasons. If the Vegas Golden Knights can resurrect the promising careers of Akira Schmid and Alexander Holtz they could come out with a steal. If not then the New Jersey Devils acquire a solid depth center for a cheap cost.
