Tampa Bay Lightning trade Mikhail Sergachev to Utah in a blockbuster draft deal
Today the Utah Hockey Club and Tampa Bay Lightning have completed a blockbuster trade sending Mikhail Sergachev to Utah.
The Utah Hockey Club made their first big splash in franchise history trading for Mikhail Sergachev. In return the Tampa Bay Lightning will get former first-round pick Connor Geekie, young defenseman JJ Moser, and a 2nd round pick.
Tampa has traded Mikhail Sergachev to Utah for Conor Geekie, JJ Moser, 2025 2nd (TOR), and Pick #199 The trade clears some cap space for the Tampa Bay Lightning who were looking to re-sign several players. They also bring in young players who could play in their lineup soon.
Trade details:
To #UtahHC: D Mikhail Sergachev
To #GoBolts: D JJ Moser, C Conor Geekie, 2025 2nd Rd Pick, 2024 7th Rd Pick (No. 199 overall)
No salary retained. Tampa clears $8.5 million off the books, well more than enough to keep Steven Stamkos if desired. For the Utah Hockey Club, they added a potential number-one defenseman in Mikhail Sergachev who adds a lot of stability to their lineup. After making two picks in the NHL Draft yesterday they had plenty of prospects to fill the void left by this trade.
It will be fun to see how both teams move forward after these moves are made.
