Potential names for Utah NHL team leaked via trademark registration
Earlier today, the NHL finalized the sale of the Arizona Coyotes, officially confirming their relocation to Utah next season. Now a few potential names have leaked as the team will be rebranding.
The names were discovered when they were registered as trademarks in the state of Utah. The names registered include the Utah Hockey Club, Utah Venom, Utah Blizzard, and Utah Fury.
It is believed that the team will follow the NFL path by playing one season without any branding. The team will simply be known as Utah HC, or Utah Hockey Club. The team will then unveil their new branding the following year.
The new team will be called "Utah" rather than "Salt Lake City."
Don't expect a mascot and official team nickname until Season 2 of the franchise. NHL wants the team to have plenty of time to get it right.
Just "Utah?"
"Utah HC?"
We could know tomorrow, with colors next week.
Be sure to stay tuned for updates on this rapidly evolving story.
