Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins seems to be a highly coveted man, as many teams have shown interest in possibly acquiring his services before the holidays.

With that, the Boston Bruins fall into an odd spot as more and more interest in Trent Frederic has been developed from other NHL clubs.

The rugged, energetic, fan-pleasing forward is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. The Bruins either need to extend him or risk losing him to free agency for nothing in return.

But it's getting harder, as reports indicate that several teams will try to get their hands on Trent Frederic either before the holiday roster freeze or during the offseason.

It recently came to light via NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that a few teams have already dialed up the Bruins with interest in his future.

"There are some names out there that people are hearing from," said Friedman. "One of them... that's Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins, unsigned for next year. Bruins are getting a lot of calls," said Friedman of Frederic. "He's a guy that's definitely got a lot of interest."

With that growing demand, the stakes are now higher for Boston, which means the asking price to re-sign him or even trade him away just went up.

Physicality and grit have become the calling cards for Frederic, who has built a reputation as one of the more hard-nosed competitors in the league, one not afraid to play tough or drop the gloves if need be.

With 11 points in 32 games this season, five goals, and six assists, the versatile forward has become a valuable catch for opposing teams.

That said, the playoffs complicate things a little for Boston. Moving Frederic would net quite the return, but losing a roster piece could damage the season's end-game.

If the Bruins find themselves flat-out unable to contend in their division and conference, though, they may have no choice but to trade him to avoid being outbid in free agency.

It means most of all weighing immediate playoff hopes against long-term roster management as the Bruins decide on their option in this highly critical scenario.
