Edmonton Oilers fans are calling for Jack Eichel to be suspended by the NHL's Department of Player Safety after a dirty hit on Mattias Ekholm last night.

The Vegas Golden Knights made the trip to Edmonton yesterday to face Connor McDavid and the Oilers, but things didn't end well for them.

The Oilers won 6-3 and the Golden Knights returned to Vegas disappointed.

An incident occurred in the game that could make Golden Knights fans even angrier, as they could see the star forward Jack Eichel facing consequences from the DoPS.

Eichel landed a dangerous hit on Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm., who collided head-first with the boards.

In a race for the puck, Ekholm got there first but Eichel hit him before he could control the puck.

Worry started to grow when Ekholm took time to get up after the hit, even though he remained in the game and even took part in the scrum following Eichel's hit.

As for the Golden Knights forward, he wasn't sent to the penalty box, leaving many to believe the DoPS should do something about his hit.

Check out how it went down in the video below:

Many fans called out Eichel for his hit, and shared their opinions about possible consequences on X. Someone even thinks that he should be suspended five games for what he did:

The DoPS has until 5 pm to release their verdict, and if they announce nothing, it'll mean that Eichel will have no further consequences.

Considering that Ekholm has been one of the best defensemen in Edmonton this year, fans hope that the league decides to do something about it.

After 30 games this season, the 34-year-old defenseman scored 12 points and has a +8 rating.

Stay tuned for further updates from the Player Safety Department about Eichel's fate.
