A new hockey rumor has connected the Boston Bruins to a former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie as an insurance policy amidst the uncertainty of Jeremy Swayman.

This offseason has been strange when it comes to the Boston Bruins' goaltending position. First, the Bruins decided to trade away former Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators.

This set up the Boston Bruins to move into the future with Jeremy Swayman as their starting goalie. The only problem is that Jeremy Swayman remains a restricted free agent without a contract. The Bruins and Jeremy Swayman are apparently quite far away on terms as well.

With all of the uncertainty in Boston a new rumor has connected the Boston Bruins to a new addition. The signing would bring a goaltender in who used to play for the rival Toronto Maple Leafs.

In a post on HockeyBuzz.com a writer named Eklund has revealed that the Boston Bruins could look to sign goaltender Martin Jones. The move would be a stopgap to help take the pressure off of a Jeremy Swayman deal.

With the Jeremy Swayman contract situation unresolved as of yet and Linus Ullmark now a member of Ottawa Senators, sources say that the Boston Bruins are focusing on a finding at least a stopgap option in net.

From what I've heard, 34-year-old Martin Jones is one of the main names being tossed around as a possibility for a one-year contract.

The NHL season is just under a month away from beginning. If the Boston Bruins are going to make this move they need to get the deal done as soon as possible. If they believe things are close with Jeremy Swayman they could hold off on this type of move until that situation clears up.
