The 2024 offseason has already seen two offer sheets be signed both by the St. Louis Blues. The Blues went after Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg taking advantage of the Edmonton Oilers' lack of salary cap room.
Now with under a month until the NHL season begins another offer sheet could be on the horizon. This time the Carolina Hurricanes could potentially look to snatch up Nick Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A new report from Zach Martin of The Hockey News has speculated that the Carolina Hurricanes could be a team to watch in the Nick Robertson discussions. According to the report the Hurricanes have the opportunity to put forward Jesper Fast on long-term injured reserve (LTIR). This move would then give the Carolina Hurricanes over 2 million dollars in salary cap space.
Then the Carolina Hurricanes have a couple of options of offer sheets they could potentially pursue. The first would be a contract under $1,511,701 which would then require no draft pick compensation to sign Nick Robertson. If the Hurricanes were concerned that the Maple Leafs would match that offer they could bump the offer up to $2,290,457 to $2.479 million which would then require them to give up a second-round pick.
With Nick Robertson wanting to get out of Toronto the Maple Leafs would likely be open to letting him go for draft pick compensation. If the Carolina Hurricanes think Nick Robertson can develop to be a player worth a second-round pick it could be a good investment.
