With Bruins training camp just around the bend, restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman still hasn't signed a new deal as of Saturday morning.
The good news? Swayman and the Bruins opted against arbitration, which means they're in close proximity to finding common ground on a new contract. Bruins leadership remains optimistic about wrapping up the deal, keeping in line with their offseason goals.
Swayman was on the ice for last week's captains practice at Warrior Ice Arena, and naturally, Brad Marchand has been asked about his teammate's contract. While Marchand isn't exactly fond of addressing his own contract situations with reporters, he wasn't sounding all that worried about Swayman still not having a contract, however, his lack of any enthusiasm or major positivity really had fans worried that they are still a lot further apart in talks than most people think.
Head coach Jim Montgomery wasn't giving too much away and deferred to GM Don Sweeney when asked about the matter, which made the situation even worse for fans. But overall, it seems the confidence is still there that Jeremy Swayman's deal will get done, the question is, will it be before the season starts, or will he miss a few games? That remains to be seen.
