The Calgary Flames have struggled mightily over their past few games, and on Sunday evening, they were locked in a thrilling, low-scoring matchup on the road with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Late in the game, the Flames were clinging to the 1-1 tie, looking to send the game into overtime when defenseman Kevin Bahl was involved in a very scary scene as he went down on the ice after blocking a puck with his head.
What makes the situation even more brutal was Bahl missing time before the Four Nations break with a concussion, with all Calgary Flames fans holding their breath for the young 24-year old, who has been in the midst of a breakout season on the teams top pairing.
Despite how scary it looked, Bahl was back on the bench for the OT period, and while he didn't return to the game, Head Coach Ryan Huska said after the game that he'll be okay and likely won't miss any time.
That's a major break for the Flames, who now find themselves tied with Vancouver for the final Stanley Cup Playoffs spot in the Western Conference, with Bahl playing a key role in their success this season.
Ultimately, it's unclear whether or not the Flames will make the post-season in 2024/25, but with Bahl enjoying a breakout season with a potential contract extension on the way, it's safe to say that they will be very happy they got him in the Jacob Markstrom trade.
