The San Jose Sharks are once again the worst team in the NHL, and they fell further into last place last night with their 5-3 loss against the Ottawa Senators.
With the trade deadline coming up on Friday, who knows who will even be left on the team by this time next week?
One player that is unlikely to be moved is veteran forward Tyler Toffoli, who signed a four-year deal with the team last summer.
Toffoli currently leads the Sharks in goals with 22, including a goal last night against the Senators.
However, his goal was not the biggest story surrounding the veteran coming out of the game.
Late in the 3rd period, as the Sharks were attempting a comeback, Toffoli cross-checked Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson on a play that lead directly to a Sharks goal.
Sens fans were upset with the play as there was no call from the referees. Many called for a suspension for the 32-year-old.
Today though, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has made their decision.
The deadline for the league to announce supplementary discipline or a hearing with the DoPS has passed, and thus Toffoli will not be suspended for the play.
Across 870 career NHL games, Toffoli has never been fined or suspended by the DoPS.
He has just 240 career penalty minutes, and a single season high of 37, which came in the 2014-15 season a decade ago.
He has 10 penalty minutes in 58 games this season.
