The Carolina Hurricanes had Vancouver Canucks forward and pending unrestricted free agent Brock Boeser on their radar at the Trade Deadline, though no deal materialized.
Meanwhile, reports arose from analyst Elliotte Friedman that the Hurricanes wanted
Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs but that he wouldn't waive his no-trade clause.
And now, a new report from analysts Donnie & Dhali indicate that the Hurricanes were looking at Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser, a pending unrestricted free agent and were prepared to offer one of the top picks they received from the Stars in the Rantanen deal.
Some say (Hurricanes) offered one of the 1st-rd picks from the Rantanen deal for Boeser in the final half-hour of the Trade Deadline.
Said the Canucks did not want to get worse. Offered a new contract extension Weds/Thurs and another Fri and weren't close.
The hang up it would seem may have come down to a prospect. Carolina was after one of Vancouver's, even though Canucks have a mountain of their own. And whoever it was, it seems like Vancouver didn't want to part with him.
Brock Boeser, who is playing on an expiring contract, was heavily involved in trade rumours at the Deadline and was one of the prime candidates to be moved before the Canucks decided to keep him.
Boeser will now try and help the Canucks not only secure a postseason spot, but to play as well as he can to land a top new deal during the summer.
