The team revealed in a post to X this evening that Andrei Svechnikov, who represented the Canes in the 2023 All-Star game, will not play tonight against the LA Kings.
The team said that he is out with an upper-body injury and refused to give any additional details in typical NHL fashion.
Hurricanes reporter Walt Ruff updated the team's lines based on practice this morning, indicating that Jack Roslovic will be taking Svechikov's place on the second line.
The Hurricanes will probably notice Svechnikov's absence tonight but it is noteworthy that he has taken a bit of a step back this season in terms of scoring.
Through 52 games he has 17 goals and 37 points, which is a shade behind the scoring pace he has set in the past few seasons.
Last year for example he had 52 points in 59 games. Perhaps this dip in scoring can be explained by this injury that he apparently has been playing through.
Then again, perhaps this is not even a specific injury, but rather a sickness as many fans have speculated.
If it is an illness that he is dealing with, we will probably see him back in action on Tuesday when the team visits the Winnipeg Jets.
Otherwise, we will have to wait for more information from the team if it is a real injury that could keep him out of the lineup for more than one game.
The Hurricanes have just four games before the break for the Four Nations tournament so hopefully, he won't miss too much time even in a worst-case scenario.
