NHL reporter calls for the Detroit Red Wings to trade away Patrick Kane after head coaching change

The Detroit Red Wings made a big coaching change in December and now an NHL analyst believes the team should make another major move and trade away Patrick Kane.
The Red Wings made the shocking decision on December 26th to fire head coach Derek Lalonde and replace him with veteran head coach Todd McLellan.
In the aftermath of the move superstar forward Patrick Kane spoke to the media about his new head coach and seemed excited for the opportunity to improve.
With Kane being excited to play under McLellan there has been an assumption he plans to be part of the solution in Detroit going forward.
However, today a report from NHL writer Adam Proteau of The Hockey News the Red Wings should heavily be considering trading away Kane for the betterment of the team.

In a new column for The Hockey News Proteau revealed that he believes Kane could be an incredible trade piece for the Red Wings to build for the future.
Kane this season has struggled with just 14 points in 30 games but Proteau thinks he could still be a valuable asset if surrounded by more talent.
Trading Kane would also allow the Red Wings to get a couple of draft picks or prospects for the aging superstar.
Kane hasn't had an exceptional season on offense, with only five goals and 14 points in 30 games.
His salary cap hit of $4 million makes him an affordable option for teams seeking depth and playoff experience, and the most he can likely get for Yzerman on the trade block is a mid-tier draft pick or slightly above-average prospect.

At 36 years old Kane is probably nearing the end of his career and likely wants to chase yet another Stanley Cup.
If the Red Wings do not see themselves as contenders moving on from Kane and sending him to a team that could use a veteran with a lot of Stanley Cup Playoff experience would be best for all involved.
With the NHL Trade Deadline just a couple of months away this situation will be one to keep an eye on as the Red Wings develop their plans.
