The Nashville Predators placed a top-four defenseman on waivers and he is likely to be claimed by a struggling team.

The Predators are poised to make changes once again. After 14 games, they have a 4-9-1 record and are currently sitting at the last rank in the Central Division. General Manager Barry Trotz even hinted that a rebuild could come.

In what is turning out to be a disastrous start to the 2024-25 NHL season for the Predators, they decided to make a massive move involving one of their former first-round picks: Dante Fabbro.

Indeed, the insider Elliotte Friedman announced in a post on X that the organization has placed Dante Fabbro on waivers.

In Friedman's words:

Fabbro, 26, was drafted 17th overall by the Preds in 2016. In 315 NHL games, the right-handed defenseman tallied 72 points and hasn't been able to add his name to the scoresheet in six games this season.

Often scratched from the lineup, he hasn't been able to add his name to the scoresheet in six games this season.

With the high demand for right-handed defensemen across the NHL, it would be surprising to see Fabbro, and his one-year, $2.5 million deal, clear waivers.

Many building or struggling teams, such as the Montreal Canadiens or the San Jose Sharks, could be interested in acquiring him. These two organizations are looking to bolster that area of their lineup, and Fabbro, despite his struggles in Nashville, could help fill that need.

However, it wouldn't be surprising to see a contending team give him the opportunity to get a fresh start in a winning environment.
