Patrick Roy made a terrible mistake by switching usual playoff starter Semyon Varlamov against the Carolina Hurricanes for Ilya Sorokin.

While Ilya Sorokin has earned one of the highest-paid goalie contracts in the NHL, he has lost his role to Varlamov.

This, unfortunately, was a mistake that placed the New York Islanders into a 3-0 series deficit.

Ilya Sorokin allowed 3 goals on his first 11 shots, and was pulled during the first period.

To make things worse, Varlamov went on to now allow a single goal. While the New York Islanders were unable to score enough to stay in the game, if they had played Varlamov from the start it may have been a different story.

You have to feel for Sorokin. The guy gives it his all, never shows emotion or calls out his teammates, and is always focused on helping his team win.

There's no question he's disappointed in how tonight went.

Been a tough year, and not all on him.
