Frank Vatrano has been a significant name on the trade block in recent months in the NHL, and now it appears all but certain that the 2023/24 All-Star will be moved by the rebuilding Ducks. It's unclear if they're in a rush to move him before the season begins, but regardless there is bound to be plenty of interest, with the Maple Leafs potentially emerging as the perfect landing spot.
In a trade proposal on PuckPedia, one fan has revealed this mock trade that would see Toronto land the star winger in exchange for a veteran depth piece as well as a young, up-and-coming winger in Nick Robertson.
In exchange for Vatrano, the Leafs would part ways with Robertson, who had a career-best season in 2023/24, with the 22-year-old tallying a solid 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games, his first significant stint in the NHL. On top of that, they'd part ways with David Kampf, who has played his role well in Toronto, but with so much depth in the bottom six, it makes sense to part ways with him as a salary filler in this deal.
This would allow Toronto another skilled winger to play on the third line, potentially alongside John Tavares or Max Domi as the center, and if they could swing this deal, there would be more optimism in Toronto than we've perhaps ever seen in this era.
