It was the Toronto Maple Leafs winning 3-2 against the Anaheim Ducks, but during the game, it got to be concerning for them as goalie Anthony Stolarz left after the first period with a lower-body injury.
No information was given immediately by head coach Craig Berube as they would assess the situation later, however, he did provide a quick update after the game that we would know more today on the severity of the situation.
About 12 hours later, the Leafs brought back goalie Dennis Hildeby from their AHL affiliate. The 23-year-old, six-foot-seven netminder is the top goaltending prospect in Toronto's system. Dennis Hildeby played two games for the club this season going 1-1-0.
Anthony Stolarz left after stopping seven of eight shots but did not factor in the win. Joseph Woll played the remainder and earned the win with 19 saves.
Stolarz is 9-5-2 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.15 goals-against average in his nine appearances this season. He inked a two-year pact with the Leafs this past offseason and wasted little time seizing the starting job.
At the same time, Joseph Woll has been reliable on his own with an 8-3-0 record, a .921 save percentage, and 2.16 GAA in 11 appearances.
No question it makes for one of the best goaltending tandems in the league so far as the Leafs are atop an Atlantic Division, with an 18-9-2 record with 38 points.
No other update on Stolarz has been given, so the recall of Hildeby would suggest it's serious.
