NHL insider reveals Buffalo Sabres may be shopping former 7th overall pick.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed today that teams have begun inquiring about the Buffalo Sabres regarding young center Dylan Cozens.
Dylan Cozens has apparently cropped up in trade discussions as he continues to struggle in his fifth year in the NHL.
The Sabres as a group have underperformed expectations yet again, with an 11-14-4 record through 29 games.
Yesterday, the team hit a new low with their eighth consecutive loss of the season.
This morning, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that teams have been asking about his availability.
"There's a lot of noise around their team (Buffalo). There are a lot of questions about where this is all going to go, and the real dangerous thing that they've got now is don't do anything you're going to later regret. I think there are a lot of teams sniffing around Cozens, and I know he hasn't played well, but he's a right-shot center and he's still a young kid, and I would be terrified if I was the Sabres thinking about making that deal."
Dylan Cozens has just 6 goals and 13 points through 29 games this season.
It is another step back for him after his 2023-24 season was largely disappointing as well when he potted just 18 goals and had 47 points in 79 games.
Two seasons ago was his true breakout year with 31 goals and 68 points. What happened to that player?
Sabres fans have certainly noticed Cozens' drop-off this season, pointing out his lack of effort and execution on the ice.
They have been left reminiscing about the past couple of seasons when he looked so good and was developing into a true star player in the NHL.
As Friedman mentioned though, Cozens is still a highly valuable asset.
He remains young and still has lots of room to improve. He's shown he can do it before.
If he can get back to that 30-goal form, it would be huge for the Sabres. But if he does it after being traded, it would be yet another indictment on the organization.
