The New Jersey Devils have already made one addition on Thursday, and after injury news to Jack Hughes, they appear to be targeting a big name replacement.

On Wednesday, the New Jersey Devils were rocked by the news that star forward Jack Hughes would miss the rest of the season, and with veteran Dougie Hamilton sidelined for a few weeks, they acquired Brian Dumoulin early on Thursday.
Now, they may have their eyes on a Jack Hughes replacement, as the team are now reportedly eyeing former Stanley Cup winner and Selke Trophy winner Ryan O'Reilly.
The veteran forward has been putting up solid numbers in Nashville over the last two years, tallying 39 points in 58 games played this season, but with the team struggling to get anything going, it would make sense to see if they can get a solid return for the veteran.
Beyond 2024/25, O'Reilly has two years left on his current deal that pays him $4.5 million annually, and while he's now 34-years of age, he can clearly get it done on both ends of the ice as he continues to be a valuable piece on a struggling Predators team.

It's unclear at this point whether or not Barry Trotz is looking to sell on some of his veterans, but with a cheap deal alongside some term, in this sellers market, there would be absolutely no reason for the team to not listen to offers on O'Reilly in the next 24 hours.
If it's not O'Reilly, the Devils could realistically pivot to other options down the middle ahead of the deadline, with name's like Brock Nelson or Elias Pettersson still potentially available, and whether or not that happens, these reports are making it clear that the Devils are still ready to push hard for a Stanley Cup in 2025.
