Utah Hockey Club snatches up player placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs while other teams make moves
The Utah Hockey Club has just snatched up Dakota Mermis who was placed on waivers yesterday by the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the NHL waiver news arrived.
The biggest surprise on today's waiver wire was the Toronto Maple Leafs losing defenseman Dakota Mermis to the Utah Hockey Club.
Dakota Mermis, touted as a dependable depth option, leaves the Leafs in a position to look for some reinforcements on the blue line now that they can no longer rely on his future services, seeing as they lost him on waivers after placing him there yesterday.
In other waiver news, the Edmonton Oilers placed defenceman, Travis Dermott, on waivers, he being a former Leaf.
Having struggled to carve out a role in Edmonton, Travis Dermott was meant to be a depth piece. If he clears waivers, he'll likely strengthen their AHL affiliate.
The Winnipeg Jets were also active on waivers today, having waived forward Henri Nikkanen for contract termination.
Once a prospect who seemed promising, Henri Nikkanen and the team agreed to a mutual split, giving him the opportunity for a fresh start while opening up space within the team for someone else to eventually come in.
We will know in less than 24 hours whether anyone claims the players that were placed on waivers today.
