Reilly Smith's name has been in trade talks for a few weeks now, and after holding him out of the lineup, the New York Rangers have moved the veteran forward as they look to climb back in the playoff race with their goal of a Stanley Cup in 2025.

The New York Rangers have already parted ways with Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko and Ryan Lindgren this season, and with just days until the 2025 trade deadline, they made it clear that Reilly Smith was on the way out too, holding him out of several games for trade related reasons.
To the surprise of no one, Smith has now officially been moved, acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights in a deal that could have a very positive impact on both teams moving forward.
The full details of the trade are as such:
Reilly Smith back to Vegas for San Jose's third rounder this year and Brendan Brisson (to Hartford).
The 33-year old has been on three teams since the 2022/23 campaign, and now this trade sends him to his fourth team, with all of these changes coming despite very solid production from the middle-six forward.
Before the trade this season, Smith tallied 10 goals and 29 points in 58 games played for the Rangers, and while he wasn't able to help them to a Stanley Cup, he was a very solid player in New York.
Ultimately, this was a deal a few weeks in the making, and while Smith was a very good performer for the Rangers in his limited time with the team, they've transformed the lineup in 2025, and with Smith now gone, it's clear that they believe this is the lineup to get them back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
