This offseason there was significant turnover amongst several NHL teams and their coaching staffs. The most covered move was the firing of Sheldon Keefe by the Toronto Maple Leafs. Many fans and the media were hoping for him to be sent packing and eventually, the move was made to replace him with Craig Berube.
After being replaced by Craig Berube, Sheldon Keefe did not have to wait around long before getting a new opportunity in the NHL. He was signed just days later as the head coach of the New Jersey Devils.
Now with the season approaching new betting odds have been released for the upcoming season. According to the betting odds the Toronto Maple Leafs might have made a mistake letting Sheldon Keefe walk away.
In a new post on X betting odds have been released for the 2024-25 season showing that Sheldon Keefe has 5/1 odds to win the Jack Adams Award. New Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has 9/1 odds to win the award placing him a few spots behind his predecessor.
Another interesting thing to note is that team success does not always lead to being a heavy favorite for this type of award. Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice who just won the Stanley Cup sits with the 25th best odds to win the award.
Consistency also does not seem to matter all that much as Rod Brind'Amour has been considered one of the best coaches in the NHL for several seasons now but sits near the bottom of the betting list.
While this list overall is not a determination for team success in the upcoming season it is interesting to see the results. Generally, the award is given to coaches in new places that improve their team's situation. If that once again is the case we could very well see a battle between Sheldon Keefe and his replacement Craig Berube for the Jack Adams Award.
