All summer long, the expectation in Toronto was of a blockbuster trade coming soon, and while many believe it would be Mitch Marner on the way out, in recent days, the speculation has picked up around captain John Tavares. Heading into the final year of his contract, the team isn't actively shopping him, but with moves still to make to become a Stanley Cup contender, if the right deal comes along, it wouldn't be a shock if they listened.
This one may not be the right deal, however, as a trade suggestion from a fan on PuckPedia has emerged, and it's safe to say that it's very... interesting.

In the deal, the Seattle Kraken would land Tavares for the final year of his deal, while sending Yanni Gourde, Jaden Schwartz, and a 2025 second-round pick to the Maple Leafs. This does fill two holes for Toronto, as they land a 3C, a valuable bottom-six winger, and a future draft pick, all while Seattle land a veteran presence and player to help young center Matty Beniers grow at the NHL level.
The money is the most interesting part however, as Seattle would be taking all $11 million, likely being an overpay for the team if they take on all of that salary cap, but with the Maple Leafs not actively shopping Tavares, don't expect anything like this to happen anytime soon.
