Brock Boeser is a pending free agent this summer, but with a desire to keep him in Vancouver, we now know the Canucks official contract offer for the star winger.
This season has been a strange one thus far for the Vancouver Canucks, and whether or not they can manage to make a Stanley Cup push, they've got some huge decisions to make in the summer.
The biggest of all is regarding pending free agent Brock Boeser, who has been one of the most consistent performers for this team in recent years, with the 28-year old having a clear desire to remain in Vancouver moving forward.
Reportedly, the Canucks are also interested in keeping him around, and now, Frank Seravalli has revealed their first offer to the talented winger, although it may not be the one that he wants.
The Canucks put a 5-year, $40 million offer on the table, but Boeser is looking for more term in this slow-moving game of 'chicken.' Expect it to heat up this week. The Canucks essentially dared him to go out and replicate his 40-goal season. He's on track for 28 with seven games missed due to injury, which is close to his career average. Now with the increasing cap on his side, he's a younger UFA, and the Canucks are really going to need scoring support if they have designs on competing again anytime soon. Plus they currently have the cap room to re-sign him and it's not a huge jump in AAV compared to what he's currently making.
The offer is reportedly over five years and worth $8 million a season, and while it's a good offer in value, Boeser is reportedly looking for a longer term deal, which would make sense given the injury history that he's got.
Ultimately, it's highly likely that they'll come at him with a much bigger offer moving forward once negotiations truly begin, and right now, all signs point towards a reunion happening now or over the summer.
