Jordan Binnington has just been linked in trade rumors to the Edmonton Oilers, which would see him reunite with Team Canada teammate Connor McDavid.

The reports around St. Louis have the Blues possibly benefiting from Jordan Binnington's incredible play in the 4 Nations Face-Off by trading him.

This prompted David Staples of the 'Edmonton Journal' to speak to TSN's Darren Dreger, asking if the Oilers would try to trade for Binnington to go along with captain Connor McDavid as part of a Stanley Cup pursuit.

"Why not? Or if you're Army, like why not? Edmonton is an interesting place, because if you don't have faith that there's one more gear to Stuart Skinner, then of course you have to look at it. But you're not bringing Binnington in to play with Skinner. What are you doing with that?"

Dreger then asked if Oilers GM Stan Bowman would be willing, and Staples said he is willing when it comes to Binnington.

"As we approach the trade deadline, I'm starting to think that bringing in another goalie to both support and challenge Stuart Skinner is the way to go. If Skinner doesn't play well, it would be excellent to have a 1A goalie that the Oilers can go to immediately and ride as far as he can take the team."

The Blues may look to trade other players first over Binnington

Blues GM Doug Armstrong may trade Binnington in a roster rebuild, but others believe that Brayden Schenn, Jordan Kyrou, or Pavel Buchnevich would generate more pre-March 7 trade buzz.

And, more recent proof that could see the Blues hold on to Binnington is that Edmonton is not actively searching for goaltender help, writes Pierre LeBrun in TSN's 'Insider Trading, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Bowman would completely rule it out.

"It's not a priority discussion within that Oilers front office for a very specific reason. I don't think the Oilers look at the goalies available on the market right now and say there's a guy that's an absolute guaranteed upgrade over Stuart Skinner . Of course the Oilers know that Skinner can play better and is going to need to play better. But they look at his playoff pedigree and feel that that guy is there and will be there. I'm not saying it's impossible for them to trade for a goalie but I'm telling you it's not a priority item for them because they don't see that guy out there."

- Pierre LeBrun

But it's easy to imagine McDavid wanting the addition of a playoff-experienced goalie like Binnington to join Edmonton's championship hopes.
