The Dallas Stars are once again shaping up as major Stanley Cup contenders in the Western Conference, and with a deep, talented team, there's no reason why they can't compete at the highest level this season.
That is, except for injuries however, and with both Miro Heiskanen and Nils Lundqvist currently on the sidelines for a very thin blue line, it's safe to say that they'll look to use the March 7th trade deadline as an opportunity for a massive upgrade.
While it's unclear currently who they would be targeting, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has now revealed one player they're willing to give up in the right deal, as he identifies Mavrik Bourque as a player that they could potentially part ways with.
The 23-year old was a first-round pick of the Stars back in 2020, and after tearing up the AHL for the Texas Stars in recent years, he's getting his first extended look at the NHL level in 2024/25.
In 51 games played, the 5-foot-11 centre has put together 8 goals and 18 points with a +3 differential, and while he's not exploded onto the scene, 77 points in 71 AHL games a year ago suggests that he's got the talent to play at a high level.
Ultimately, it would need to be a big piece coming back to Dallas in order for them to make a deal happen, but with plenty of big fish out there on the trade market, if the Stars can reel one in, don't be surprised to see Bourque on the move in the next week or so.
