Ville Husso was just traded by the Red Wings to the Ducks, which has left the door open for a possible bigger goalie trade to go down tonight.

The Detroit Red Wings recently traded goaltender Ville Husso to the Anaheim Ducks for essentially nothing. Officially, Detroit received "future considerations," but realistically that never actually ends up meaning anything big comes in return.

Husso, 30, is in the last year of a three-year, $4.75 million-per-year contract. He has played only nine NHL games for the Red Wings this season, the remaining 13 being with AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

But he is sure to be filling out the Ducks' main roster now that opening goalie John Gibson is sidelined by injury.

As NHL insider Elliotte Friedman writes, Gibson's injury is not serious. With Husso now on the roster, Anaheim appears to be bringing three goalies on their roster, with Gibson, Husso, and Lukas Dostal.

"Doesn't sound like John Gibson's injury is a problem."

Naturally, this set off rumors that Gibson would be available for a trade and that the Edmonton Oilers and Philadelphia Flyers are interested.

"John Gibson watch intensifies."

- Jason Gregor

"John Gibson pack your bags."

"John Gibson is gone."

The Oilers have recently stated that they were content standing pat and moving forward with the goalies they currently have, but there are still quite a few days to go until the deadline and a lot can change.

Keep an eye out as the days go by, as a lot may be going on before the March 7th trade deadline hits. Who knows, maybe it even happens tonight!
