The Edmonton Oilers need some big upgrades this season, but according to GM Stan Bowman, that upgrade won't be coming in the form of a new goaltender, as the team are reportedly set to stick with Stuart Skinner moving forward.

For the most part this season, things have been going well for the Edmonton Oilers, with the team shaping up nicely to make yet another run at the Stanley Cup Finals in 2024/25 as they currently sit in second place behind the Vegas Golden Knights in the Pacific Division.

However, there are some major question marks over this roster, and those have only grown since the return to play after the Four Nations Face Off, with the team giving up a combined 13 goals in two games to the Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals.

That issue could be on the blue line or it could be in net, but either way there's been speculation about upgrades at both positions this season, with General Manager Stan Bowman recently asked about them after the tough loss to the Washington Capitals.

When asked about whether or not the team would pursue an upgrade in net, with rumours circulating over many veteran upgrades, Bowman kept it incredibly simple with his answer:

No

This shows the utmost confidence in Stuart Skinner, who has been very inconsistent throughout his NHL career thus far, and with the likes of John Gibson, Dan Vladar and potentially even Jordan Binnington available, the Oilers are sticking behind him.

Only time will tell whether or not that's the right move, but now that leaves Edmonton to focus on an upgrade defensively, and if they can make the right move, there's no reason why they can't be representing the Western Conference in the Stanley Cup Finals again in a few months.
