Bruce Boudreau Makes Surprising Prediction For The Next Stanley Cup Champions
Former NHL head coach Bruce Boudreau made a surprising prediction for the next Stanley Cup champions in a recent appearance on TSN's First Up.
Like many retired members of the National Hockey League, Bruce Boudreau found a job in media, where he often shares his unique insights on what's going on around the league.
Recently, the former coach of the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and Vancouver Canucks opened up about who he believes will win the Stanley Cup this year.
His pick surprised many people.
Indeed, he stated that the Washington Capitals should be considered the top contenders to win the Cup this year.
In his explanation, he raised many interesting points. He started by talking about how the Capitals have a lot of depth on the roster, both in the forward and defensive groups. He added that their two goaltenders, Logan Thompson and Charlie Lindgren, don't give up bad goals.

"They have four lines that can play. They have six defensemen that can play. They have two goalies that are really good, that don't give up bad goals. They just continually come at you. You know, if we all watched the Four Nations and the Caps play like that, they're in your face all night long.
They're big, they're strong. They got a lot of no-names. For example, Protas got three goals last year. Now he's got 26 or something like this. McMichael's got 20 goals. Dylan Strome's averaging a point a game. Even their fourth line-they got two guys on the fourth line with 10-plus goals. I mean, they come at you every way, and they're big, and they are physical." A lot of this impressive development curve can be attributed to Capitals' head coach Spencer Carbery, who's had a big impact in Washington since he was hired in 2023.
The team is currently at the top of the Metropolitan Division and should qualify for the playoffs easily, even though they lost 3-1 last night against the Calgary Flames.
The Caps will be back on the ice tomorrow to face the St. Louis Blues.
