In a massive declaration, an NHL scout suggested a blockbuster trade involving the Montreal Canadiens and a top-five draft pick.

The Montreal Canadiens are still well within playoff range and will stop at nothing to clinch one of the Eastern Conference's wild-card spots.

With 24 games remaining in the regular season and only five points away from the Columbus Blue Jackets, who hold the last available playoff spot in their conference, chances are slim, but they are still there.

This year wasn't about being in the playoffs; it was about playing meaningful games, and that's exactly what's going on in Montreal right now.

According to a scout working for a rival NHL team, this year's draft could be the most important one in the Habs' rebuild, and they could get another top-five pick, whether they make the playoffs or not.

The Canadiens currently have two first-round picks in the 2025 draft, and they could trade both of them to get a higher pick, according to the same scout.

In an interview on RG.org, the scout revealed that they should target a team that could use two lower first-round picks instead of a top-five pick, like the Seattle Kraken or the Nashville Predators.

Here's what he said:

"This year's NHL Draft could be the most important in the Canadiens' rebuild."

"It's scary to think they could land another top-ten pick if their season continues to crater and also get a top-20 pick from the Calgary Flames. At least 29 teams in the league would kill for the Canadiens' prospect pool, maybe more, and it's about to get even deeper."

"The Canadiens could still get a top-five pick with their selection if they keep losing, but if not, I'd target a team that could use two top-15 prospects with a depleted pipeline and trade up to get one of those top-five guys,» said one scout. «I look at a team like the Seattle Kraken or the Nashville Predators. Would they give the Canadiens a top-five pick if they could get picks seven and 12 or something in that range?"

The Habs will definitely be a team to follow at the trade deadline, in the draft, and during free agency. Stay tuned.
