Alex Ovechkin has never been afraid of a hit, and on Saturday, his latest hit went viral after an official ended up on the bench.

The Washington Capitals are one of the last teams to start their 2024/25 campaign, and in their first game of the season, they're looking to make an impact against Metropolitan Division rivals the New Jersey Devils. During the game, there have been some massive moments, but one of the biggest was a hilarious one, with a hit involving captain Alex Ovechkin.

With Tomas Tatar along the boards, No. 8 looked to make an impact with a massive hit, and it resulted in an official getting inadvertently taken out in the process.

In trying to avoid the hit, the official of the game would wind up in the bench in a hilarious moment, one that has captured the attention of many fans on social media. The official in question was #94 Bryan Pancich, who clearly saw the humor in the moment as this certainly isn't something that always happens, with the New Jersey Devils players on the bench not knowing how to react in the situation with an official in their laps.

After the first period, the Devils find themselves up 2-1 in this tight affair, with both teams fighting hard to get off to a good start as they look to push for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot in 2024/25. It may not have been the biggest or the best hit we'll even see today, but it was a hilarious moment that will be viewed all over social media as Alex Ovechkin looks to continue his chase for Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal-scoring record this season.
