After months of speculation, Sidney Crosby finally ended the rumours this past off-season and inked a new deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins, one that may carry him all the way through until the end of his NHL career. Knowing Crosby, there were plenty of people that assumed he would take $8.7 million AAV on his contract, but given the value that he could potentially have gotten, there were many that believed it would not happen.
However, it ultimately came to fruition much to the shock of the NHL community, with Nathan MacKinnon among those that were shocked, with the fellow Cole Harbour native revealing his thoughts on the situation on the latest episode of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast.
Unsurprisingly, MacKinnon was very supportive and complimentary of Crosby, but admitted he thought there was no way Crosby would take this deal when he asked him.
After a stellar career that's involved plenty of money and three Stanley Cups, no one would have blamed Crosby if he wanted to take more money whether it be in Pittsburgh or elsewhere, but ever the team player, the captain wants one last shot at a Stanley Cup. Ultimately, this will no doubt help his legacy by the time he's done, and given his consistency and all that he has achieved throughout his career, if he could add another Stanley Cup run, it would no doubt cement him as one of the greatest players in NHL history.
